In defence of TMUK, Android is about the only 'phone OS where you could know ahead of TMUK about a firmware release.
With all of their 'phones except the G1 the firmware updates are done internally at the manufacturer without end users knowing little if anything about it, so I would expect their operations to be set up so the TMUK call centre guys don't know anything an upgrade until it's roll-out was near or happening, and, as yet, I've not seen anyone even acknowledge that TMUK will roll out the update.
