Well today, Thanksgiving... with the wind blowing at 3 knots per hour from the west... the moon waning in Libra and direct as in not void of course...
My Nexus 6P began working again. Sound is back to normal. Just as what I wrote in the 1st line above has no significance to the issue, there seems to be no reason as to why this happened nor how it repaired itself. But it is working. In case anyone reads this, all seems fine again... other than it did not save all my settings requiring much reconfiguration even though it was configured to save.
