My fault for not explaining myself better. I want to still be able to collect accelerometer data while the display is off. I'm well aware of the fact that I can keep the display on, but if I want to, for instance, create a pedometer application that counts footsteps while in the user's pocket, then the last thing I want is to keep the display to be on the whole time.
