I should clarify my own answer: I didn't post the original question,
and I'm not looking for a "final" 1.5, I'm just interpreting what was
said.

I do have questions about 1.5 that I posted but never got answers for
(is it by design that SimpleDateFormat.parse() no longer throws an
exception? Is it by design that non-US locales do not have month names
when trying to format a date), but I don't know the underlying
question of the OP.
