I'm at Apple's WWDC conference right now and have spoken with their developers about recreating my Android app for the iPhone. Currently the iPhone has MAJOR limitations on the mapping side and some limitation on the video side as well.
For mapping, no API exists for easily interacting with anything like a MapView. The iPhone developers I've spoken with have come up with creative solutions that require javascript, writing your own queries to Google Maps, or implementing sophisticated View overlays on top of the default iPhone maps. All of these are quirky and time-consuming solutions that shows Apple still does not take location-based services seriously...or just wants to limit the mapping functionality for some odd/unknown reason. Perhaps this will change with the new GPS-enabled iPhone coming in July but no word yet. As for video, the Apple API doesn't provide the same level of control over accessing a video view as we have in Android. You must pass your video to the iPhone to display and lose control at that time. So as the OHA has said, Android is still MUCH more open than the iPhone. - biosopher --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
