The reason why a given phone's MMS application might not work on all
carriers is typically that the MMS gateway that this phone is
configured to use might not be accessible over the internet and might
only be visible when connected directly through that carrier's
network.

I don't know whether that's the case for T-Mobile's G1, I'm just
speaking in very general terms.
