"One of our top priorities after the first devices ship is to develop a device-to-device (and possibly device-to-server) RPC mechanism that is fast, reliable, and protective of developers and users alike." http://android-developers.blogspot.com/search?q=rpc
I hope this is being worked on? This is supposed to enable innovative apps? The article above gives the impression that social contacts for lbs mashups are non-conformable with the Google Logon identity. If so, then there's a problem with identity for lbs mashups, those virtual contacts, game contacts, etc. The two big things missing for compelling apps are device-to-device communication and identity. Also where does Smack fit into all of this? Does Smack even work properly? XMPP appears to me the way to go. It's standardized compared with JXTA, it can spread out if things become too overloaded, and most importantly it has a brilliant Logo. But it doesn't have Identity like JXTA. So what's to be done about identity? Playing with Intents in a P2P world appears just plain scary. I think that better wait for a long while. - Juan T. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
