If you check your reciept on Google purchases  ... you will not find
anywhere to download that app again .... you will have to rely to the
developer ... and that will not be all that convient if you have many apps
and/or the developer is no longer active ...

Hence all software should be safely backed-up ...for you own protection ...

Now if could backup the app ... then the question is could we still
reinstall a protected app via the AppInstaller ... I think only
google/android can answer that ... unless someone with root has saved a
'paid-app'  and then tried to install it on a non-rooted phone ...

That would be an interesting and benificial test
