I agree wholeheartedly, but Google's hands are tied by the fact that the networks insist on taking their cut on app purchases. The networks have a silly amount of power over what goes into phones, purely because they are the ones who sell them to the vast majority of users (via bizarrely obfuscated credit agreements known as "service plans"). Imagine if your broadband provider gave you a "free" computer when you signed up and then crippled your access to it and took a cut of all the things you bought online.
