Subject: [android-discuss] Re: WIFI Tether I need help

A quick google turned up this:

http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

I've never used it before, and if you have questions about how to use it you
would be best checking out the FAQ and asking on their own mailing list:

FAQ: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/FAQ
Mailing List: http://groups.google.com/group/android-wifi-tether

Having said that, I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it :)

This depends on the capabilities of your router. It *MUST* be able to
connect to an ad-hoc network. I find it unlikely that this will be
possible.

I suggest that you ditch the router, get yourself a cheap used/old
laptop or other x86-compatible system with a wifi card (802.11b or g)
and a network plug. Install your favorite linux distro on it. Setup
BIND (dns server, sometimes called named) and dhcpd, and use iptables
rules to setup for NAT, i.e.
http://www.revsys.com/writings/quicktips/nat.html

With this done, the laptop essentially becomes a much stronger version
of your router. You can plug another computer into the network plug on
the laptop to access the net via your phone. You can also plug in a
switch or hub, or wireless access point to provide that connection to
multiple computers.
