AndAppStore, SlideME, etc. are not carrier dependant so there are still plenty of non-Google distribution channels.
They many not come pre-installed on some 'phones, but if Google is making decisions based on the will of the carriers it's not hard for people to download the on-device clients and change to using another app distributor ( for AndAppStore you can download and install the APK from http://tinyurl.com/aasclient ).
