I am now drawing from my own experience starting and maintaining an
OSS project over time (of course outside of Android or any of the
aforementioned).
The glory wears off quickly. Users do not care whether it's OSS or
not, but expect support and turnaround of their problems just as if it
was regular commercial SW. And if you want to piss off people in your
industry (assuming you've got one you belong to, and you're not just
sitting in your parent's basement) that you may want or need to do
business with later on, yeah, go right ahead and give professional
services away for free. <irony on>A great way to build relationships
and pay the bills at the same time.<off>
