Just to get to the reality of things: There's people out there who
have actual money making business/work that happens to require to keep
Windows around - like it or not and not in defense of Windows. In this
reality, Android is the outsider, not vice versa. And who wants to
start lugging around two notebook PCs?
I might try and check out one of the VMs though, possibly a good
suggestion, however - does the USB connection to the device work? Any
other limitations?
