FYI thats the stock behavior of the lock - it sucks, and it requires
tons of TLC and patience to unlock reliably. (There are lots of things
that cause it, but basically "something uses a little cpu and/or ram"
is what it boils down to. That is why everyone is excited about the
Ion firmware - it is a bit faster, and this sort of thing happens way
less often.)

As far as the google login, try it over wifi. If all else fails,
you'll have to wipe the phone. (No, there is no backup and basically
nothing is saved on the cloud - just gmail/contacts. Sorry.)
