Thanks for the summary. I figured that was the reason, but I don't really follow these discussions because I'm mostly a user, not a developer. I guess I always look through the list of permissions when I install an app; if a certain permission doesn't look right (as in, why should this app send text messages?), I take that into consideration. I would think it would be the same if I view a permission that says, "Enable and disable GPS" -- do I really want the app doing that? I emailed the developer of Power Manager and asked him; he said he was working on a workaround that would require a rooted phone.
