The thing is : I don't follow your point on these so-called legal
issues for Google. Although I live in Belgium, I can create an account
on Google Checkout, with my belgian adress and belgian VISA card
references without any problem. And a Google Checkout account is just
the only thing you need to go over and buy applications in the Android
Market.
I can then use Market Enabler to fake my Android and SIM card are on
another (supported) network like Orange UK or SFR or whatever. This
perfectly worked on the HTC G1, but not on the HTC Hero because it
seems once you have rooted an HTC Hero you just aren't able to see nor
install copy protected applications.
So this is a stupid loop : to reach and paid for paid apps, I need to
root my device, and once I root it I'm left with plenty of Apps I can
pay for anymore.
And if I don't root, I just can't buy any application, whether copy
protected or not.

So when I consider I did study informatics at University and work in
IT since 13 years, I would really hate being a regular, non IT-
litterate end user ending up with so called "Open Source" solutions
which are bringing 500% more headaches, confusions and frustrations
than other solutions.

This is a MAJOR shame, since the HTC Hero is, according to me, the
first really well-designed and usable Android smartphone (enough
memory, nice UI, ...).

And yes, I'm more and more convinced we will end up in a Symbian kind
of situation : multiple stores. Today we have already the Android
Market, Slideme.org and selling of apps directly on developers' web
sites with Paypal. In September, it is Archos launching it's own
Android Market to support their coming Android Tablet. Guess were we
will be in 1 year....

I hate to say it, but Apple is the only one to have perfectly
understood the model.
