Each of their quarterly reports for this year (up to the Q3 report which was the most recent when we made our evaluation) appear to show a decrease in turnover in 2009 when compared to the same quarter in 2008. With the 2009 Q1 showing a 47.9% drop and Q3 showing a 25% drop in turnover when compared with the same quarter in 2008 we believe those are healthy figures for a company. Their 2008 report appears to show a 27% decrease in turnover when compared to 2007, so it is our opinion that Archos has had decreasing turnover for quite some time.
There is also a statement in the Q3 2009 report also stated the net debt stood at 10.6 euros in the 30th of September 2009, which had increased from the figured reported for the 30th of June 2009, which we took as an indication that things are getting worse, not better. If you look at their share price you'll see the closing price on the 15th of September 2009 (when the Android A5 was launched) being 5.68 Euros, and the 16th of September 2009 being 5.91 Euros, and it's closing price on the 4th of Jan 2010 being 2.96 Euros and the close on the 31st of December 2009 being 3.01 Euros. This, to us, looked like a sign that traders in the shares have lost confidence in the companies ability to deliver good returns. Judging when a company will go under is always difficult, but we were looking at legal options which could take 18 months to 2 years to complete, and we weren't confident that at that point Archos would be in a position to cover our legal costs and pay any settlement awarded. You should, of course, do your own research if you're interested, and, as always, we do not accept liability for anyone acting on this information. These are our views and opinions based solely on the information we have seen.
