You bet Angry Birds has enough name recognition that Rovio feel they
can do whatever they please. If you've paid attention, you remember
Angry Birds for Android was launched on GetJar and Rovio moved to
Android Market only after GetJar couldn't handle the initial load. I'd
also take any bet they would not have much of an issue getting kicked
out of Android Market. That's how rough a deal they consider Android
Market. You can also bet they already talk to third parties like
GetJar and negotiate incentives to set up shop there, contingent upon
an "involuntary" departure from Android Market. Come to think of it,
they'd actually enjoy the noise that an ejection of Angry Birds from
Android Market would cause. More free marketing for them and the
partnering delivery platform. So, as indicated by Maps.Huge.Info - the
way things stand today, and considering the level of access that
Android Market lends to the end user base: Nobody can match Android
Market quite yet, only a handful of titles (only one, perhaps?!) can
even mess with this and not risk an existential crisis.

Regarding the purchase model. Absolutely agree with Maps.Huge.Info.
Today, the high velocity app sales model is dead. If there's a "way",
monetization through engagement is "it". Too bad Android Market so not
supports developers with this. So I suppose we can only hope Google
drops the in app payment "ban", or other (as in one, maybe two)
delivery platforms become prominent enough to make the jump out of
Android Market a viable consideration for most any developer.
