Put me in the camp of those that think Amazon will use its pricing power to its fullest extent. Setting a high list price may be your only defense. But I also believe that Amazon is very good at niche markets. That's what they are famous for. There are whole books written about how certain niche markets wouldn't even exist without Amazon. Don't assume that the pricing requires human intervention. All they have to do is adjust pricing in real time based on the enormous amount of data they monitor. An interesting talk at PubCon mentioned how the vast majority of internet advertising money is spent by the few top players. They can only spend that much because they can automatically adjust based on realtime ROI analytics.
