I wonder if the same thing happen if you deleted (if possible) the Android Market app. The "locker" app technique is what third party stores seem to be using (SlideMe, AndApp) which is a good idea. Otherwise you have all kinds of headaches with authorization not to mention support. I've been selling a couple of my apps off my web site but it may not be worth that support as the only buyers were people who didn't have paid apps the Android Market in their country. Looking at the current list it looks like they are about to get paid apps and maybe to cover any other countries Amazon might be a reasonable solution though I've used a "wait and see" approach to see other developer's experience.
