If looking for a statement, I'd take the reality that the Maps API
hasn't seen noticeable updates for a year and a half now, while
Google's Maps app has progressed with new layers, 3D effects etc.

Another consideration is that Google has started charging for the web
based Maps API. Could happen on Android any day.
