Letters are a long, long way from having a valid claim. I've seen a fair number
of legal looking letters in the past which, when challenged, weren't backed up
with anything more than a companies attempt to make their own position look
stronger than it is.

It is, of course, entirely up to you to not use in-app purchases, but there are
plenty of developers (me included) who'll happily use them to offer users a
smoother purchasing experience to users, and, from what I've seen, that usually
leads to higher sales.
