They do need a mobile app. I agree. Not sure if you use Google Analytics, but their mobile app is pretty good. Of course, it may not have the particular data you are looking for (downloads, etc).
I am in the Beta for the version new Analytics which has a lot more Android specific stuff. I am really liking it. It provides a lot of really good stats. For instance, they a breakdown of users by screen size (I of course immediately created emulators based on the top 3 sizes). You can track installs, and a variety of other demographic info. It is a much more complete picture of your user base. I have to imagine some of this functionality will converge, and they will have those same stats on the Developer Console too.
