I want to create my own rom for my ZTE Blade using google sources and I am
really confused. I've read lots of manuals and guides including the
documentation in source.android.com, but I've not been able to find answers
to my questions so far... It seems that the most important problem a
development team faces is hardware compatibility. As fas as I know,
hardware related stuff lies inside the kernel, made by the manufacturer,
which includes the drivers for a specific device. The manufacturer cannot
include in his kernel every piece of hardware due to license issues, that's
the reason we need proprietary binaries (I guess...). Those proprietary
binaries are just suitable for one kernel version. At this point I ask
myself... Why isn't possible to keep the same kernel version (a functional
one with its binaries included) and just upgrade the android version? Why
do I need binaries for each android version? Why do I need a new kernel
version for each android version?

Thanks.
