I haven't worked on it for a while. Our hack worked, but I don't know if Google had any intentions of coming up with a solution themselves, seeing as no current Google Android phone uses ppp for data. E.g., the G1 uses a network device exposed by the modem, allowing IP traffic without ppp overhead.
