Does it actually hang, or does it appear to do nothing?

Do you have a serial console cable hooked up so that we may see the output?

One thing to note, without the serial console cable, the output from 
usbboot isnt obvious... it just flashes over bootloader, and without 
rebooting you have to start in with the fastboot commands.

Also, pay extra attention to the directions regarding having the SD card 
out of the device when attempting to fire it up via usbboot.
