I'm sure it's one of those 'mother knows best' things to protect us from our own dangerous curiosity. It also minimizes the amount of tech support our phone company has to provide which is probably their main reason. If you think we are restricted you should look at the iPhone and iPod Touch! I'm sure you know that it is possible to root your android phone. I won't since I'm a very cautious girl because of my time as a network administrator.
