Well I cannot tell you about admin permissions of that app anymore as my phone is factory reset but even after factory reset the problem is still there. Also, my device is not rooted.
By hijacking I mean that random new tab opens when I click any link on legitimate website. For instance if I am surfing www.bbc.com or www.yahoo.com etc. and when I click any link in a new tab (or sometimes in same window) opens with absolutely random website link. Mostly link redirects to www.adultube.info url. I never visited this site in past nor I am not sure why its appearing. Also sometimes my browser shows alert message saying that on my phone three viruses detected by yessapp.com app. Now I never installed such app. Furthermore I installed all kind of antiviruses and anti-malawares available on google play store but none of them detects any foul play. As per the best of my memory I installed a few FREE TV channel apps and one of them for an Indian News Channel app "AAJ TAK" from an independent developer (not from TV channel) to see live news on my phone. I am not sure as if this app is still there or not as I see a fewer apps than before with the same name on Google play store. Also, I remember clicking an ad in one of the live TV channel app by accident but that was almost 2 weeks back which opened a browser on phone which I closed immediately and cleared the cache but I guess damage was already done by now. Now I need a software/app which can remove this adultube.info malaware. This malaware also infects PCs with tons of websites with instructions to remove it from a computer but no one tells how to detect and remove from android phone.
