Umlaut does not display for a CRUD entity attribute value

I see a form that was generated by the <<Manageable>> stereotype.
I type in a value for an entity attribute, and the value contains an umlaut,
e.g. "ΓΌ". I press the "Create" button.
Now in the list of created entities, the umlaut is displayed as two characters,
one of them is garbage, the other is a fraction (1/4). There is something wrong
with character set encoding.
