Hi all,

Is anyone using bpm4struts in a pre-production environment? I'm quite
curious about what people think of it, biased or not, and whether it's
ready
for use.

Hi Brian,
I'm doing a "test-drive" with AndroMDA (hibernate and bpm4struts
cartridges) preparing to start the real project next month.
I like bpm4struts very much and I'm sure I will use it in real production
environment. Now I'm dealing with some conceptual questions about the
modelling rules and examples to the team. I think it's a very important
point to address before start using bpm4struts.

bpm4struts development has not slowed down at all :-) check the wikiweb for some details regarding what to expect soo

I currently have a working version locally, but I did not commit all the sources yet because I want to improve them here and there

the state of the main bpm4struts branch should be considered deprecated, I mean..just wait for the new release (1-2 weeks), it will feature:

  1. easier and more consistent modeling rules
  2. validation on the level of each individual model element
  3. MMDs (andromda 3.x compliancy requirement)
  4. generation of compilable JSPs ... with the appropriate widget
renderer depending on the type (password field, combobox,
     checkbox, etc...)
  5. magic draw compatibility (guys... get your hands on a copy of
MagicDraw because you don't know what yu'r missin' :-) )
  6. validation of user input on the client side using javascript (via
     xdoclet validation tags)
  7. and so on... (wikiweb)

An opportunity for improvement would be to have the cartridge create
XDoclet
tags in the generated source, using them to generate the struts-config.xml
instead of generating it directly. This would allow for seamless
integration
within applications that use a combination of bpm and manual page
development.

As I know, bpm4struts will work this way.

Walter is right ... I am trying to maximum the use of xdoclet tags, that was his idea btw :-) thanks man

I am presuming that the development pace on bpm4struts has slowed because
a
better implementation uses MMD, is that correct?

I think so.

slowed down ? my girlfriend thinks otherwise :-)

you might consider looking at the andromda-devel mailing list archives ... there has been a lot of communication about the new design & cartridges

expect an email soon, I will let you know when you can already check out a beta from CVS (or we might as well post a build on SF.net) to get started on it .. I will still need your valuable input

Wouter.
