I am not getting the point here ...

do you mean I should first try to import an UML model (for example an
XMI export containing an UML model) into EMF.

if yes, there is some kinda misconception - EMF is only an UML subset,
so you can't exactly map an UML model to an EMF model ...

I would say this is the reason why there exists an additional UML2
plugin on top of EMF ...
