we are refactoring the Spring, EJB and Hibernate cartridges to make
effective use of eachother, that way we don't need Hibernate templates in
both Hibernate and Spring cartridges (for example)

this change is major and still in progress (can't be done properly in the
span of a day), it also only affects code behind the scenes .. so once
it's ready nobody will notice

if you see a few issues popping up using the latest snapshot it's because
3 people are working on it at the same time and SF.net CVS was not
properly running yesterday .. no bleeding edge without bleeding, right ?
:-)

can't you keep using the January 10th version ? because stopping
development is really not an option
