Okay, adding the <<Identifier>> attribute worked. It seems that the type of the identifier must be an Object, such as Long. If I made it a primitive, such as long, I get compile errors in the generated code (for example the generated code tries to compare the identifier with null). So is the assumption that identifiers must be objects correct?
Also the identifiers do not show up in the front end. For an entity such as Order there is no natural key so it is difficult to distinguish orders.
