there are two types or merges:


1. merging code into existing templates

2. merging your own templates into the cartridge (which often just is 
overriding)



for (2): don't forget you can override the cartridge descriptors too, allow new 
 templates to be inserted



and also for (2): when specifying a directory it will be the location of the 
templates to be merged with the cartridges ones, overriding any with the same 
name



I admit the wording is a bit confusing, I have to go to the docs sometimes too 
to check I'm doing it correctly .. we might change that mergeLocation property 
name



the docs are wrong: </dependency> should be </namespace>, I've fixed it and 
will commit later today
