Hi! I'm using the 2007.12 release with GPE on an iPaq hx4700. I
searched the mailing lists and see that there is a reference to someone
using an Opie image getting his hx4700 to go to sleep and wake up when a
pre-set alarm is scheduled. I'd like to do this without Opie, in my GPE
installation, either using shell commands, by using existing GPE
applications, or by building a GTK+ program.

Given that GPE and Opie are just UI environments, I'm guessing that
whatever the relevant Opie program does to set the alarm is making the
right moves behind the scenes, but maybe gpe-calendar(*) isn't. What
I've read about how Linux does wakeup in general indicates that /dev/rtc
is usually involved in wakeup, and there is a /dev/rtc on my hx4700, so
that's good to know.

What do I need to do in order to put the device to sleep and have it
wake up at a pre-determined time? **I'm willing to do the development
work to make it happen** if it comes to that, but I'm hoping someone
already knows how to make this work. Ideally, there's already some GPE
software that will do this for me.

Thanks for reading :)

(*) gpe-calendar only seems to control alarms while it's running.
