Encouraged by Mark´s report I went on to try angstrom for the first time
on my 860.
First I flashed away the good old Cacko with an original Sharp Rom to get the
original flash partitioning back, afterwards I followed instruction from
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/zaurus-c7x0-c8x0
to flash the latest angstrom image.

The files I used were
Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-test-20070605-c7x0.rootfs.summary.jffs2
zImage-2.6.20-c7x0-20070605084706.bin

I used the summary image just because it was larger. :-) perhaps I got
something extra?
Is the difference between summary and non-summary root fs documented anywhere?

...
Booted nicely, Touch screen calibrated and it seems to work so far.
Furthermore it looks very, very stylish! Good work guys!

Sound doesn´t work here either, at least it seems so, even when alsamixer looks
ok.

Anyway:
a big thank you!
