So, a brief update on that one ...

The microphone and the DSP device work fine.

        $cat /dev/dsp > test.wav
        $cat test.wav > /dev/dsp

record and replay sound from the microphone.

Looking at the source of gpe-soundbite, i found that it required esd
(dependency missing!), so I downloaded and started it. Started
gpe-soundbite for recording and got that:

        no sound process found
        (gpe-soundbite:5271): libglade-WARNING **: Could not load
support for `gnome': libgnome.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
        child sound process is exiting
        signalling child sound process
        failed to kill sound process

The dialogue with the progress bar disappeared immediately. And that's
what I'm working on at the moment.

Any suggestions (also for complete replacements of gpe-soundbite) are
welcome.

        Guenter
