John, the fundamental issue is the old 2.6.26 kernel for Zaurus c7x0. We can trick and work-around as we want but udev (and other device managers) are now requiring modern kernel features, so if even we bring udev-151 in shape for 2.6.2x kernels the next release will probably break things anew...(we struggle with udev since it moved from 0.92). BUT I have a great news for corgi/spitz/akita users: the kernel 2.6.34 boots and two days ago the last big issue for corgi was resolved upstream (no mmc/SD detection). It looks like even the usb-networking issue could be possibly solved too. So in the very next future Zaurus clamshell machines will have new kernel as default!
