It's Angstrom. So far I managed to set up a network and ping the board with
the host and vice versa. Still, no Internet on BB. The steps I have done so
far:

-enable NAT

-enable package forwarding in Ubuntu: tested and works (see:ping)

-set ip address and netmask on both sides

- the USB port appears as USB0 on both sides (ifconfig)

I only had problems when tried to add the USB driver to the kernel (modprobe
g_ether on BB) but since the network works, that should be fine. I had some
issues with the USB with VirtualBox but it's sorted. Any ideas?
