I think bg-splitter got popular because it was mentioned in the recent 
ng-newsletter that went out 3 days ago. here's the screenshot of the 
portion that mentions

Great work with your own enhancement on multiple panes. If someone opens a 
new issue on bg-splitter asking for more than 2 panes, you should bring 
your project up
