If you have a question like this, you will get an answer much sooner if you 
link a plunk/fiddle.
But may I ask, why do you need the event? It look you want to know the 
target so you can
so some DOM manipulation. In Angular, this is mostly not needed, so I 
wondered what
your use-case was. (before looking into what happens to your $event!)
