[AngularJS] Directive doesn't execute

I have the following directive:
app.directive('itemFormatter',
  function () {
      return {
          restrict: 'A',
          scope: {
              itemFormatter: '&'
          },
          link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
              console.log("hello world");      
      };
  });

I do have item-formatter reference in my html but I dont see anything in 
the Console.
