Normally you don't have to 'wait' for data to return because one of two (at 
least) things will have happened:  $http returns which will kick off 
Angular's digest cycle and THEN controller actions will be kicked off and 
whatever you'd like to show will show AND/OR you have a promise on the 
$http return call where you can do whatever handling you want.
