We would like to join the world in congratulating Alain Aina, one of AFRINIC’s
founding staff members, for receiving the 2019 Jonathan B. Postel Service
Award. Alain was instrumental in the set up and success of AFRINIC. The Award
was presented during the 106th meeting of the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) held in Singapore on16-22 November 2019.
Alain was honoured for his leadership and pioneering work in Internet
development in Africa and building technical communities that helped connect
countless others across the continent and beyond. As the citation for the Award
indicates, Alain was part of the team at AFRINIC which helped build large parts
of the Internet ecosystem in Africa as well as contributing to the creation of
the network operator group, and ccTLD registries.
Even though he left AFRINIC 2015, Alain continues to be an engaged and active
member of the organisation, the global and African Internet community. He
currently works as the chief technology officer of the West and Central Africa
Research and Education Network (WACREN).
The Postel Award was established by the Internet Society to honour individuals
or organisations that, like Jon Postel, have made outstanding contributions to
the data communications community. The Award is focused on sustained and
substantial technical contributions, service to the community, and leadership.
On behalf of the AFRINIC Board of Directors and staff, I would like to heartily
congratulate Alain for this achievement.

Nous voudrions nous joindre au monde entier pour féliciter Alain Aina, l’un des
membres fondateurs d’AFRINIC, pour avoir reçu le Prix Jonathan B. Postel 2019.
Alain a joué un rôle déterminant dans la création et le succès d’AFRINIC. Le
prix a été remis lors de la 106ème réunion de l'IETF (Internet Engineering Task
Force) tenue à Singapour du 16 au 22 novembre 2019.
Alain a été honoré pour son leadership et son travail en tant que pionnier du
développement d'Internet en Afrique et pour role de bâtisseur de communautés
techniques qui ont permis de connecter d’innombrables autres personnes sur le
continent et au-delà. Comme citée, Alain faisait partie de l'équipe d'AFRINIC,
et a a contribué à bâtir une grande partie de l'écosystème Internet en Afrique,
ainsi qu'à la création du groupe d'opérateurs de réseau et des registres ccTLD.
Même s'il a quitté AFRINIC en 2015, Alain reste un membre engagé et actif de
l'organisation, la communauté Internet mondiale et africaine. Il travaille
actuellement en tant que directeur des technologies du réseau de recherche et
d'éducation pour l'Afrique occidentale et centrale (WACREN).
Le prix Postel a été créé par l’Internet Society pour rendre hommage à des
personnes ou des organisations qui, comme Jon Postel, ont apporté une
contribution remarquable à la communauté de la communication de données. Le
prix est axé sur les contributions techniques soutenues et substantielles, les
services rendus à la communauté et le leadership.
Au nom du conseil d’administration et du personnel d’AFRINIC, je tiens à
féliciter chaleureusement Alain pour cette réalisation.

، على حصوله على جائزة Jonathan B. Postel Service لعام 2019. كان آلان فعالاً في
