The ASF is a 501(c)(3) membership corporation, so Members serve a
similar role as shareholders do in publicly traded corporations.
Existing members may nominate Committers who demonstrate merit in the
Foundation’s growth, evolution, and progress towards ASF Membership.
They may also vote in Member and Board elections. This member
nomination system highlights the emphasis the ASF places on
vendor-neutral, volunteer-led projects and initiatives.

Once elected, most Members find additional ways to get involved in ASF
projects. While the Board and ASF officers are directly responsible
for providing oversight and guidance to the 300+ active ASF projects,
Members also work within many projects to help ensure they run
smoothly and follow The Apache Way.

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is the global home for open
source software, powering some of the world’s most ubiquitous software
projects including Apache Airflow, Apache Camel, Apache Cassandra,
Apache Groovy, Apache HTTP Server, and Apache Kafka. Established in
1999, the ASF is at the forefront of open source innovation, setting
industry standards to advance software for the public good.

This election brings the total number of ASF Members to 1,188.
