Hello fellow members,

Our September, 2012 hackathon is this Saturday.

September hackathons co-incide with Software Freedom Day, a global celebration of free and open source software.
http://softwarefreedomday.org/

Two organized events are planned at Skullspace:
1) An all day bug squash-a-thon.
2) SuperTux time trial competition (starting at 2pm)

-----------------------------
Details

1) An all day bug squash-a-thon. Nominate a free software bug listed in a public bug tracker that you would like to see squashed by Skullspace hackers:
http://skullspace.ca/wiki/index.php/Software_Freedom_Day

I will be starting my bug squashing in the morning and give a quick afternoon presentation on my progress at that point. At the end of the day (near 8pm) I'll share final progress with a second quick presentation.

Non-programmers can also help with bug squashing by testing out existing bug reports and adding clarifying comments to them.

If you're looking for a bug to nominate or work on, check out the list of bugs holding up the next Debian release as an example:

2) SuperTux time trial competition
Compete for the fastest time to complete 5 levels in SuperTux (version version 0.1.3, aka Milestone 1)
http://supertux.lethargik.org/download.html

Performances will be done live on one of our two projectors, but you are welcome to do so with your own PC.

We need a volunteer judge for this one.
(Come on, step up, and help out. All you need to do is keep track of who's who and operate a stopwatch.)

SuperTux time trials start at 2pm.

---------------

FLOSS is one of the best things hackers have brought the world. Feel free to organize your own tribute to this achievement, be it a game tournement, toast, demonstration of a favorite program, by just plain hacking.

There's room in the schedule for things unrelated to free software as well -- us free software hackers like to share.

And there's always room at our hackathons for hanging out.

Happy Hacking,
Mark Jenkins
