I don't post day-to-day business to announce@ very often, but as I alluded to in the subject, this is very important. Basically, it's vital to the survival of SkullSpace at this point, as scary as that sounds. With the new lease that the landlord is proposing, we're going to be stretched thin. So thin that it's really not realistic to survive without making some changes. I don't believe moving is an option - we're not going to find anything better than what we have, and we're going to wind up with either shitty space or more expensive space, with the same problems. There are three ways to solve this, and I think we should be working on implementing all three: 1. If you're not a member, and you'd like to become one, please talk to me! If you join now, we'll give you the first month for free! Just email me directly (ron @ skullsecurity.net) and we'll make arrangements! Also, if you have any friends who you think would be interested, bring 'em to SkullSpace and show them around! 2. If you ARE a member, and you can afford to pay more than $40/month, please consider filling out a new PAD that includes a monthly donation. I've personally offered to do this, as did nearly everybody in the budget meeting. If you can afford $50, $60, or even $100, it'll make a *huge* difference. For what it's worth, we had a visitor this week whose hackerspace runs entirely off monthly donations, and they have people who pay $200 and $300 each month, because they can afford it. I understand that not everybody can afford more than $40, but if you can and you wish to donate extra money, please email me directly and we'll sort it out. ron @ skullsecurity.net 3. More events! We've had several events the last couple weeks, and have more planned! If you have an idea for an event, don't be shy! Take the reigns, and if you need anything at all, let me know. I'm here to help and facilitate as much as I can. And when we do have events, please pass the hate, particularly for non-members. $5 or $10 per person isn't an unreasonable donation! So yeah, that's my appeal. We desperately need to raise our income in a short timeframe to offset the rent increase. If we don't, we're going to be homeless. Or worse. So please help out!
