Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you. I am writing to offer a suggestion
for publicizing the Libertarian Party of Virginia and the Libertarian
Party in advance of the LP national convention in Denver on May 23-26.
If you are a delegate to the national convention, please send a
press release to your local news organizations about your status as a
delegate. Many newspapers will run brief stories about local people who
are participating in such national events. I have enclosed below a draft
of the press release for the Jefferson Area Libertarians area; you are
welcome to adapt it for your purposes.
Allow me to suggest that you also send your local news media a
post-convention press release in which you provide information about the
LP presidential ticket, as well as information about LPVa candidates,
achievements by LPVa members, etc. For example, if Bill Redpath is
reelected as LP chairman, mentioning his status as LP chairman (and LPVa
candidate for U.S. Senate) gives the press release a local angle that may
prompt a news organization to use the release in some manner.
Regardless of whether you are a delegate, please send information
about the upcoming national convention to your local news organizations.
Even if the news organizations do not run a story about the convention,
your press release may serve to prompt someone at those news organizations
to watch the convention or to contact the LP for more information.
Thanks for your work for liberty, and for considering my
suggestions.
Take care,
Jim
