Dear Virginia Libertarians,

I would like to thank our Virginia candidates for public office -- Bill Redpath
(for US Senate) and Nathan Larson (1st District US House) -- for their tireless
efforts to spread the message of liberty this election season.

Results for Libertarians on the ballot in Virginia, according to the State
Board of Elections, are as follows:

Bob Barr 10,459 .30%
Bill Redpath 19,128 .56%
Nathan Larson 4,788 1.44%

With two states left to report as of 10:22 am this morning, Barr has collected
481,858 votes, or about .40% of the vote.

McCain-R 46% 55,542,743
Obama-D 52% 62,680,702
Barr-L 0% 481,858
Nader-I 1% 644,101

This represents the 4th-highest vote percentage for the Libertarian
presidential candidate.

Now, a request.

Many newspapers and other media outlets in the state are surpressing any
mention of Libertarian and other alternative-party participation in the
elections. While we may think the media are perpetrating a fraud upon their
readers, we know the real story and there is an avenue open to us to help
gently lead those newspapers towards honesty.

With a hat tip to Stephen Winston <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> of Glen Allen for the
suggestion, please take a few moments today to write a Letter to the Editor to
your local newspapers, and matter-of-factly remind the paper's readers that
there were Libertarians on the ballot in the state and be sure to include a few
words about what we believe in.

Keep in mind that at our level of development, every election should be
considered a recruiting ground for the next election. Libertarians use
participation in the electoral process to find new supporters, some of whom
will become candidates themselves in future elections. With a simple letter to
the editor today, you can help promote and speed that process.

Thank you all for your efforts, and above all, thank you for your belief in
freedom.

In Liberty,

Marc Montoni, Secretary
Libertarian Party of Virginia

P.S. When you write your letter to the editor, please send a copy to <[EMAIL
