1. Kwiatkowski: Do Americans Have Cognitive
    Dissonance When it Comes to Liberty?
================================================

"... why it is that so many Americans seem to be such a freedom-fearing,
kulak-hating bunch? ... Is it that too many generations of Americans have
remained uneducated in basic ethics, philosophy, history and economics? Is
simple ignorance the reason for such cognitive dissonance when it comes to
freedom in this country? Are we so gullible and uninformed that we can’t figure
out when government is telling us the same lies, over and over?"

2. Constitutional Convention: Is Virginia The Next Target?
================================================

"As I noted in this column a few weeks ago, proponents of assembling a new
Constitutional Convention are a scant two states away from achieving that
monstrous reality:  http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin480.htm ... At
that time, the state of Ohio was in the crosshairs. Fortunately, enough people
from that good state inundated their state representatives with objections, and
the matter was tabled (for how long, no one knows). Now it appears that the
Commonwealth of Virginia is going to be the next battleground state...

"In all likelihood, the Virginia legislature will be the next state government
to take up the Con Con issue. It is imperative, therefore, that the citizens
of Virginia begin contacting their various representatives, demanding that they
not authorize the call for a new Constitutional Convention... As I noted in my
previous column on this subject, "If called, a modern Constitutional Convention
could declare the U.S. Constitution to be null and void, and could completely
rewrite the document. For example, former U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice
Warren Burger once declared, 'There is no effective way to limit or muzzle the
actions of a Constitutional Convention. The Convention could make its own rules
and set its own agenda.'" ... Since 32 states have already approved the new Con
Con, only 2 more states are required for the enactment of this debacle."

Baldwin:

4. Alternatives to Government - Link of the Week
================================================

Libertarians generally seek to replace government functions with private sector
alternatives. With each issue of Old Dominion Liberty Letter, we will review
individual alternatives that prove government doesn't need to be involved in
all things at all times. Our aim with this column is not only to help provide
information that will help our fellow Libertarians find and patronize
private-sector alternatives to government functions; but also to help them
prepare for that next debate with friends, family, reporters, etc when they ask
"if you Libertarians were in charge, who would pick up the garbage?!"

We will examine homeschool and private school resources, private, free-market
conservation groups, suppliers of transportation infrastructure, alternatives
to government courts, and so on.

Your suggestions for our first review are hereby requested. Our temporary
editors have a couple in mind, but I am sure many of you have ideas that are a
lot better than ours.
